Built From Experience on Both Sides
InternGenie began with a mother and son experiencing the internship process from two different perspectives. Ross was navigating a competitive, time-consuming internship search as a college student, while Kristin was learning firsthand how challenging it can be for a small business to find, interview, onboard, and create meaningful work for the right intern.
They saw the same problem from opposite sides: students were spending significant time applying without knowing if they would even get a single reply, while growing businesses often lacked the recruiting resources or established process to efficiently identify students who fit their needs.
The Student Perspective
After securing internships himself while studying Finance at SMU's Cox School of Business, Ross questioned why the process felt like a one-way road, almost impossible. InternGenie was built around a different idea: students share their goals, interests, and skills once, while companies share what they are actually looking for, then InternGenie does the rest.
The Small Business Perspective
As a small business owner working with interns, Kristin saw how valuable student talent could be. She also saw how much work goes into reviewing candidates, interviewing, onboarding, training, and creating a worthwhile experience. Her commitment to meaningful internships was recognized with the 2026 LARC Emerging Employer Partner Award.
Together, they created InternGenie to help students find relevant experience, help businesses discover emerging talent, and help schools strengthen the connection between education and the workplace.
